AC Mechanicos 1 v 2 Borgalona
After extra time.
Athens.

After 120 minutes of monumentally mesmerising monotony Borgalona secured their 5th Europa Robofoot Champions League triumph matching the achievements of their arch-rivals Unreal Madroid who, ironically, had been dumped out by AC Mechanicos in the quarter finals. AC Mechnicos took the lead in the 17th minute with a headed goal from L. da Vinci (no, not the dead one, another one). When I say headed what I mean is that the ball hit L. da Vinci on the head and went into the net whereupon he disappointingly celebrated with 10 minutes of unconsciousness, a ride on a robostretcher and a trip to the Athens Centre for Head Traumas. Although no action was taken by the referee at the time, UERA subsequently impounded the AC Mechanicos Footbot that belted the ball at L. da Vinci's head and are now investigating whether it was a so-called 'programmed human wall pass goal'. Allegedly several AC Mechanicos software coaches disappeared before full time and are now believed to be at large in South Americana dressed as women.
Meanwhile, back at the Robofoot, AC Mechanicos packed the midfield with humans and Footbots and tried to hold onto the ball, clearly with a 1-0 win in mind. This did not make for exciting viewing except for the Footbot that, due to a technical misunderstanding did hold onto the ball, literally, and got itself sent off in the 48th minute (still clutching the ball tightly in it's arms).
So, 4 Italian bots v 5 Spanish bots, and the extra bot began to make a difference and in the 70th minute Borgalona drew level with a well-worked humano-Footbot move ending with Juan San 'the fault' Andreas sweeping home the equaliser. AC Mechanicos doggedly stuck to the defensive game plan, presumably hoping for penalties. Unfortunately the first penalty arrived before the end of extra time when El Desperado was put clean through on goal and blatantly taken down by one of the remaining AC bots, which was duly sent for an early oil change.
Andreas converted the penalty to make it 2-1 with ten minutes to go whereafter the 5 Borgalona Footbots ran rings around the remaining 3 AC bots one of which overheated with two minutes to go and lay down on the pitch with its arms behind its head and its legs crossed. One of the Borgalona bots had the presence of mind (or rather the remote instruction) to dive theatrically over the hot-under-the-collar-floodlight-bathing AC bot drawing a record 3rd AC Footbot sending off. Mercifully the clock reached zero and that was that for another year.
